NOVEL PROTEIN, GENE ENCODING THE SAME AND METHOD OF USING THE SAME

It is intended to search for and identify a novel antimicrobial protein whereby the growth of pathogenic bacteria for plants (for example, Pyricularia orizae and Rhizoctonia solani causing two major diseases of rice plant) at a relatively low concentration and to clone the gene of this protein. Thus, a novel antimicrobial protein which can be obtained from a fraction obtained from a water extract of Pleurotus cornucopiae by the ammonium sulfate precipitation method, has an antimicrobial activity at least against P. orizae and R. solani , and shows the presence of an about 15 kDa component in SDS-PAGE is provided.
