A magnetic tape with less PES and off track and excellent servo characteristics, wherein at least one layer of magnetic layer is formed on one surface of a non-magnetic support body, a back coat layer is formed on the opposite surface, servo signals for tracking control are recorded in the magnetic layer or back coat layer, and the width of a recording track used at a tape running speed of 4 m/sec or faster is 21 mu m or less, and ( alpha /W) x (V/f) is 10/s and/or ( alpha /W) is 0.1 or less where the tape running speed is (V) mm/sec, the amount of edge weave with the frequency of (f) mm present at one tape edge forming a running reference side during tape running or at a tape edge opposite to the running reference side is ( alpha ) mu m, and the width of the recording track is (W) mu m.
