1292574 N-Substituted acetaldimines STAMICARBON NV 19 April 1971 [28 Feb 1970] 23124/71 Heading C2C N-Substituted acetaldimines are prepared by reacting acetaldehyde in the liquid phase with an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic primary amine containing a secondary or tertiary carbon atom on the nitrogen atom thereof in the presence of, at least in the later stage of the reaction, a waterimmiscible solvent for the acetaldimine, whereby an aqueous and an organic layer are produced, the product being recovered in the organic layer. The solvent may be a xylene, an ether, pentane, heptane, cyclohexane and is preferably benzene or toluene. Specified amines are isopropylamine, secondary butylamine and isobutylamine, preferred amines being cyclohexylamine and tertiarybutylamine. |
