PURPOSE: A speed control apparatus of a weaving machine is provided for detecting whether or not it is weft thread with a weft thread detecting censor and then controlling a motor speed according to the detected value thereof. Therefore, the apparatus has the advantages of always achieving optimum weaving and a smooth speed control. CONSTITUTION: The speed control apparatus of a weaving machine comprises: a weft thread detecting part(200) for detecting weft thread; a display part(1000) for displaying a detected value to data; an amplification part(300) for amplifying the detected value to a specified level; a level control part(400) for controlling the amplified value; a relay part(500) for driving a relay according to the output value; a manual tension control part(600) for controlling the thread tension force; a motor drive part(700) for generating a control signal for controlling the motor speed; a lower speed drive part(800) for driving the motor at a low speed; and a normal speed drive(900) part for driving the motor at a normal speed.
