PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head driver and driving method for ink jet printer in which the voltage being applied between the electrodes of each piezoelectric element is lowered through a simple arrangement. SOLUTION: The head driver 10 of an ink jet printer where piezoelectric elements 11 provided, respectively, for a plurality of nozzles and applying a pressure to ink are driven selectively at a specified print timing with a drive signal COM from a head drive circuit 12 to eject ink drops for recording from corresponding nozzles is provided with a circuit 20 for applying a bias voltage to the ground side electrode 11b of each piezoelectric element.
