PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a display device which is easily made lightweight and thin, resistant to a shock, superior in flatness and contact with an ITO electrode, easy to manufacture, and further has superior gas barrier property and high performance in a wide band application. SOLUTION: The substrate for the display device has: a plastic film of >=70% mean light transmittance in a wavelength region of 400 to 700 nm and >=100 deg.C glass dislocation point; and a gas barrier layer containing an inorganic laminar compound and a polymer. Preferably, the value of retardation at a wavelength of 632.8 nm is <=15 nm and the inorganic laminar compound is synthetic mica. |
