PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent photographic base while suppressing neck in and die lip stain in the extrusion coating of a side of base paper on which photographic constituent layers are disposed with a polyethylene resin layer, ensuring good adhesiveness of the polyethylene resin layer to the base paper and preventing the contamination of a cooling roll. SOLUTION: In the photographic base obtained by using natural pulp-base paper as a substrate, coating one face of the paper substrate with a resin having film forming capacity and coating the other face on which photographic constituent layers are disposed with a polyethylene resin layer, a polyethylene resin which is an ethylene homopolymer produced by tubular process high pressure radical polymerization and containing 11-21 mass% component whose molecular weight is shown by logM>=5.5 when the molecular weight of the homopolymer (expressed in terms of polystyrene) measured by size exclusion chromatography(SEC) is represented by M is contained by >=60 mass% in the polyethylene resin layer.
