PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that since a liquid crystal shutter for exposure device performs an unnecessary optical shutter action because liquid crystal molecules of connection electrode parts in which pixel electrodes and external electrodes are connected perform ON/OFF operations, light shielding layers are provided at these places in the shutter, however, liquid crystal molecules of adjacent pixel electrode parts are displaced by influence of the operation of liquid crystal and color irregularity is generated separately in the liquid crystal shutter. SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal shutter in which a common electrode 6, light shielding layers 7, an alignment layer 9 are provided on a substrate 1 and pixel electrodes 8, connection electrodes 15 and an alignment layer 10 are provided on a substrate 2 and liquid crystal 5 is filled between the substrates 1, 2, spacer members 16 which are protruded by covering the connection electrodes 10 are provided and the alignment layer 10 coats over the spacer members 16. As a result, a liquid crystal layer being at upwards of the connection parts becomes very thin and the motion of liquid crystal at these parts becomes so as not to affect liquid crystal of the pixel electrode parts. A reason why the thin liquid crystal layer is made to remain is to make liquid crystal to be spread over the whole surfaces of the substrates. Moreover, when spacer members 16 are provided not only on the substrate 2 but also provided on the two substrates 1, 2 by being distributed on the substrates, the difference in level on the substrates is reduced and the forming of the alignment layer and a rubbing process are facilitated.
