PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display device which has high contrast, high color purity and satisfactory brightness and which can be manufactured at low cost. SOLUTION: The reflection type liquid crystal display device is characteristically provided with a color filter having a cholesteric polarization element and a light absorbing layer provided on the backside of a selective reflection surface of the color filter.
