PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microscope system which has a focusing apparatus capable of preventing careless operation by excitation ON when a power source is turned-on. SOLUTION: The microscope system which has the focusing apparatus to adjust the relative distance between a stage 4 on which a sample 3 is placed and an object lens 7 and to carry out focusing, has a stepping motor 5 to move the stage 4 so as to adjust the relative distance between the stage 4 and the object lens 7, a power unit 24 to supply power to each action part of a microscope main body 1, and a memory 21 to store the excitation pattern of the stepping motor 5 of the power unit 24 when the power source is turned off, and determines the excitation of the stepping motor 5 when the power of the power unit 24 is turned-on again on the basis of the excitation pattern stored in the memory 21 when the power is turned off.
