PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for automatic door capable of detecting an obstacle in the whole height area of an automatic door and detecting the obstacle even in a partial failure of an emitter or light receiver. SOLUTION: This device comprises a projection part 14 formed of a plurality of emitters 12 arranged at prescribed vertical intervals on a vertical frame 9 or door 8, and a light receiving part 15 formed of detecting elements arranged in positions opposed to the emitters 12 with the same number and the same interval as the emitters 12.
