PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method of accurately positioning a railway vehicle in relation to a beacon system. SOLUTION: In this system for positioning the railway vehicle at a point along a rail track provided with a beacon 2, the beacon 2 is configured so as to transmit information to the vehicle by sending an electromagnetic signal, and the vehicle has an antenna 1 having a first receiver circuit 3 for receiving the electromagnetic signal sent from the beacon 2 when the antenna 1 passes over the beacon 2. The antenna 1 has a second receiver circuit 4 formed into an 8-shape loop for accurately determining moment when the antenna 1 aligns with the beacon 2.
