PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ultraviolet protecting cosmetic having low skin irritation and good usability such as a refreshing feeling in spite of excellent ultraviolet protecting effects. SOLUTION: This ultraviolet protecting cosmetic comprises (a) octyl methoxycinnamate, (b) a volatile silicone and (c) 5-25 mass% of an aqueous ingredient. The ultraviolet protecting cosmetic has 5-10 mass% of the content of the ingredient (a) and 5-60 mass% of the content of the ingredient (b). Furthermore, the ultraviolet protecting cosmetic comprises 5-30 mass% of a fine particulate metal oxide as an ingredient (d). The ultraviolet protecting cosmetic is any of the ultraviolet protecting cosmetics in which the cosmetic is a water-in-oil type.
