PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermediate stage installed inside a shaft of a manhole, which serves for an improvement in safety and workability by eliminating placement of a cover body on a stage body even if an opening is put into an opened state. SOLUTION: The intermediate stage is provided with the stage body 1, the cover body 2, and a pair of guide rails 3. The stage body 1 is composed of a lattice-like board body, partially notched to be formed with the opening 12 through which a person can pass upward and downward, and laid approximately horizontally midway inside the shaft K of the manhole MH. The cover body 2 is received for support by locking members 11a-11c provided at an inner peripheral edge of the opening 12, so as to be capable of covering the opening 12. The guide rails 3 are disposed to be parallel to each other in such a manner that one end 31 is connected to both side edges of the opening 12 and that the other end 32 is inclined downward to a downside of the stage body 1. The cover body 2 is transferred from tops of the locking members 11a-11c to tops of the guide rails 3 in order to make the cover body 2 housed on a side of an under surface of the stage body 1 and open the opening 12.
