The lock mechanism (1) comprises an elongated housing (2) designed to be inserted into an aperture in the inner panel of the door or window and having an outer plate (3) which forms an integral part of the housing and covers the aperture. It also has a bolt holder (4) able to slide in a lengthwise direction inside the housing and having a threaded hole (6) with its axis (7) lying perpendicular to the outer plate to receive a screw (8) which fixes the bolt to the holder. The outer plate has a hole (9) giving access to the screw and the threaded hole and lying in line with the axis of the hole when the bolt holder is in its locked position. The hole is fitted with a stopper (10) which can be pushed inside the housing to give access to the screw and threaded hole, and returns to its original position afterwards by a spring.
