1330250 Cooled electric cables VEREINIGTE DRAHT-UND KABELWERKE AG 21 April 1971 [22 April 1970] 10553/71 Headings H1A and A4D To reduce cable failure due to tensional stress in conductors of low-temperature cables a supporting arrangement is assembled from annular support rings 1 spaced apart by rods 2, and taped with perforated plastics tape 5, or heat shrinkable foils, to form a hose arrangement. The rods locate in recesses 4 or sockets 3 (Fig. 3). Conductors are then located on the support arrangement and may be in the form of strips or formed on supporting strips which can be wound directly on the support arrangement, replacing tape 5. Contraction of the rods 2 on initial cooling allows them to fall into the centre of the cable, thus allowing free movement of the rings 1 towards one another. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 the rods have a ball arrangement on their ends to help retain the rods in the rings prior to initial cooling. |
