OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE TYPE SWITCH DEVICE AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide type switch device which reduces the polarization dependency of switching electric power. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide type switch device 10 is equipped with 1st and 2nd directional couplers 5 and 6 which are formed by putting specific two parts of two optical waveguides close to each other and a temperature varying means 9 which switches an optical waveguide made to output light from one of the two optical waveguides 7 and 8 positioned between the 1st and 2nd directional couplers to the other by varying the temperature of at least one optical waveguide; and two polarized lights which are propagated in the optical waveguides and substantially orthogonal to each other are so adjusted that the absolute value of the optical path length differences of the two polarized lights between the two optical waveguides are substantially equal.
