Fibre optic transceiver module

A fibre optic transceiver module (1) comprises optical components and a system interface (7) integrated into a single module capable of being plugged into and removed from a telecommunication parent system. The optical transceiver module comprises a housing having disposed therein a transmitter and a receiver, and further comprises heat dissipating fins (9) and a pair of rails (6) disposed on opposite sides of the housing, the rails have a plurality of spring-like fingers arranged to enable the module to be plugged into a suitably configured board. The spring-like fingers on the rails enable the module to be accepted on a range of circuit boards having variable thicknesses. The module is designed primarily for use in 10 Gbit serial optical systems, but also for use in WDM applications as well as at other speeds and wavelengths.
