PURPOSE: Provided is a purification process of clarithromycin, which is used for the treatment of stomach ulcer, has strong antibacterial effect and excellent pharmacological activity, in high yield and purity. CONSTITUTION: The purification process of clarithromycin, particularly 6-O-methylerythromycin of the formula(I), comprises the steps of: putting crystal type II of clarithromycin into a mixed solution of water, aqueous organic solvent, and non aqueous organic solvent; stirring the mixture and filtering it; washing it with water, aqueous organic solvent, and non aqueous organic solvent sequentially or with water and non aqueous organic solvent sequentially; then drying it to obtain pure clarithromycin.
