PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a water supply pipe from being frozen up with a minimum consumption of electric power by controlling the supply of current to a heater of the water supply pipe in a refrigerator having an automatic ice making machine. SOLUTION: The refrigerator comprises the water supply pipe heater 11 provided in the vicinity of the water supply pipe 10, an ice making sensor 14 for detecting the temperature of an ice making tray 6, a timer 18 for counting a prescribed time from a time when a signal of the ice making sensor 14 is inputted, a timer 19 for counting a prescribed time from a time when the timer 18 counts up and a controller 17 for inputting the signals of the ice making sensor 14, the timer 18 and the timer 19 to control the supply of electric current to the water supply pipe heater 11. After the timer 18 counts up, the supply of electric current to the water supply pipe heater 11 is started to supply electric current for the prescribed time by the timer 19, so that the water supply pipe 10 can be heated for suitable time at a suitable time and the wasteful consumption of electric power can be eliminated.
