PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding body having a remarkably improved lubricity by oil pot function while maintaining the properties characteristic of silicon carbide. SOLUTION: The sliding body consists of a composite silicon carbide sintered material in which composite silicon carbide structures where a fine solid lubricant is blended with silicon carbide particles in a closely stuck state are individually dispersed into a dense, single silicon carbide structure where silicon carbide particles are bonded to each other. The content of the solid lubricant in the composite silicon carbide structures is 10 to 50%. The diameter of the parts formed of the composite silicon carbide structures is 20 to 50 μm. The content of the solid lubricant in the composite silicon carbide sintered material is 2 to 25%.
