<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power loss without degrading shift shock in an automatic transmission. SOLUTION: The automatic transmission and its shift control device comprise a first one-way engaging mechanism F1 installed between two members and generating engagement in either of the regular and reverse rotating direction to couple the two members together; a second one-way engaging mechanism F2 installed between the two members and engaging in the other rotating direction for coupling them together; and a changeover means 27 to change over at least either of the first and second engaging mechanisms between two conditions, i.e., the invalid condition in which no coupling is generated in the two members even if torque in the engaging direction is applied between them and the valid condition in which engagement is established and the two members are coupled when torque in the engaging direction is applied between the two members.</p> |
