PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly detect a bottle having a defect even if the surface of the bottle is decorated. SOLUTION: In order to inspect the wall surface of a bottle 10 having a surface decoration, the bottle is irradiated with light from a light source 18, and an image is formed on a two-dimensional camera 22 through a lens system 20. The image data are received by a computer 24 and it is judged whether a pixel range having a size not less than a predetermined size threshold is present within a pixel range of dark brightness. In the case of presence, the aspect ratio of the pixel range is measured and, when it is not less than the predetermined size threshold, a signal judging the bottle to be rejected is generated.
