PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator provided with a screw type elevating drive mechanism preventing breaking or the like of a transmission belt driving a nut coupled to a screw shaft and minimizing noises and vibration. SOLUTION: The elevator is provided with a cage 3 capable of vertically moving along a predetermined elevator shaft, the screw shaft 12 fixed along a moving direction of the cage 3, the nut 14 screwed on the screw shaft 12, and a hollow shaft motor 15 rotatively driving the nut 14 in the normal and reverse directions. In the hollow shaft motor 15, its stator 17 side is fixed to the cage 3 side, the screw shaft 12 is received in its hollow rotor 18, and the hollow rotor 18 is drivingly connected to the nut 14.
