PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric wire or cable-covering resin composition having high oil resistance and flame redundancy with neither halogen-based nor phosphorus-based flame retardant as the essential component, and to provide electric wires or cables covered with the above resin composition. SOLUTION: This resin composition is obtained by melt-kneading (A) a polyolefin resin, (B) a polyphenylene ether resin, (C) a functional compound having at least one of bonds or functional groups selected from the group consisting of nonaromatic carbon - carbon bonds except single bond, oxirane group and derived carboxy group, and (D) a specific diamino compound; wherein the weight ratio A/B is (60:40) to (25:75), the amount of the component C is 0.1-30 pt(s).wt. based on a total of 100 pts.wt. of the components A and B, and the amount of the component D is 0.001-20 pt(s).wt. based on a total of 100 pts.wt. of the components A and B. In the resin composition thus obtained, the component A forms a continuous layer.
