PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a level detector which detects a level position in a tank more correctly. SOLUTION: The level detector is provided with an ink cartridge 24 for storing a liquid and an optical sensor 26 including a light-emitting element and a light-receiving element. A detecting part is formed to a part of the ink cartridge 24 where a detection position fixed to the tank is included. The detecting part can pass an emission light from the light-emitting element. A detection face is formed to the detecting part, which forms an interface to the liquid and is set so as to pass the emission light at a region where the liquid is present inside and to totally reflect and guide the emission light to the light-receiving element at a region where the liquid is not present inside when the detection face is illuminated with the emission light. When the detecting part is divided to two regions in a movement direction of the level via a boundary of the detection position, a detection light reaching the light- receiving element is set to be the light of the emission light totally reflected by the detection face in a first region as one of the two regions. |
