PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce costs, to reduce a mounting space of an encoder and to thereby provide a miniaturizable forklift. SOLUTION: The fork position detecting device 70 for detecting moving amount of a fork from changed amount of the feeding amount of a wire connected with the fork and performing a position detection of the fork is provided with a moving direction determining means 71 for determining a moving direction of the fork when a plurality of fork movable directions exist, and a position calculation means 72 for calculating a fork position by adding and subtracting moving amount of the fork detected for the moving direction determined by the moving direction judgment means 71 to/from feeding amount before the moving. The device 70 is characterized by obtaining the fork position individually for each moving direction of the fork.
