PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which uses a reflection type display element and a pixel shift unit and is enabled to make a high-resolution display. SOLUTION: The image display device comprises a back light 1 which emits a light for display, a polarization beam splitter 2 which splits the light emitted by the back light 1 into two and projects one of the split lights as a one- directional polarized light on the reflection type LCD display element 3, the LCD display element 3 which reflects the incident light by a reflecting film on its reverse surface and polarizes and projects a specific display light, and a unit 4 which receives the polarized display light form the reflection type LCD display element 3 through the polarization beam splitter 2 and makes a two-point or four-point pixel shift so that a display of high-resolution can be obtained. |
