PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a closure of an oblique trough provided under a slag discharge port by a molten slag. SOLUTION: A melting furnace comprises a primary combustion melting chamber 11, a secondary combustion melting combustion 13, a gate chamber 15 for discharging the slag, sequentially arranged in this order, and an oblique trough 18 arranged directly under the slag discharge port 17 to transfer the molten slag discharged from the discharge port 17 of a lower part of the gate chamber 15 upon receiving of the molten slag. The melting furnace further comprises a gate cleaning unit 16 provided at an upper end part of the trough 18 under the slag discharge port 17, a water supply nozzle 22 for an arrowhead unit 21 at the distal end of the cleaning unit 16 to supply water from the upper part of the trough 18 to always hold a trough floor surface 18a in a water flowing state.
