PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder heating method and a device prevented from discharging liquid used for heating of a cylinder to the lower part of the cylinder. SOLUTION: Water in a storage tank 11 is heated to a heating temperature by a sheath heater 13, and when the internal pressure of an ammonia cylinder B is sufficiently low and the amount of the ammonia in the ammonia cylinder B is sufficiently little, a feed water pump 15 is operated to discharge hot water from a spray pipe 21 installed on the upper side of the ammonia cylinder B. The water flowing down from the ammonia cylinder B is received by a recovery pan 43 and recovered into a return tank 12 through a return pipe 3 so that the water recovered by operating the return pump 16 is fed to the storage tank 11.
