AUTOMATIC EXTRACTION METHOD OF RIB EDGES IN CHEST X-RAY IMAGES

PURPOSE: An automatic extraction method of rib edges in chest X-ray images is provided to read accurately the chest X-ray image in a preprocessing procedure of a chest X-ray image by extracting automatically the boundary of the rib. CONSTITUTION: An X-ray is obtained by a DR(Digital Radiology) or a CR(Computed Radiology), or an X-ray film(21). A digitization process for the obtained image is performed(22). The digitization process is to convert the obtained image to a digital image by using a film scanner. A boundary of lung is extracted from the digitized image(23). The boundary of the lung is composed of a rib cage, a diaphragm, an upper boundary of the lung, and an inner boundary of the lung. An initial boundary of a rib is extracted(24). A final boundary of the rib is extracted by using the initial boundary of the rib(25).
