PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaporation cooler for a building excellent in evaporation and cooling while water resources are stored. SOLUTION: The evaporation cooler for a building comprises a flexible porous material including a waterproof plate arranged on an entire surface above a roof slab of the building having a waterproof structure, a water supply means for supplying water to the porous material, a compressing means for compressing the porous material, a heat detecting means for detecting an amount associated with a weather condition and the condition of temperature on the surface of a roof, a reference temperature storing means for storing reference temperature obtained by considering prescribed conditions and a calculation/comparison means for calculating relative outside air temperature on the basis of the detected value of the heat detecting means and comparing it with the reference temperature. When the relative outside air temperature calculated and compared by the calculation/comparison means is the reference temperature or higher, the water supply means supplies water to the porous material and the compressing means compresses the porous material to ooze out the water infiltrating into the porous material to its surface.
