PURPOSE: An extended barcode system and a method for printing and reading the same are provided to express the ASCII(American Standard Code for Information Interchange) characters and the completion type Korean character as a barcode by expressing the 16 states of the barcode as making a width of a black and a white bar comprising the barcode set to two sorts. CONSTITUTION: The system includes a barcode table storage(102) storing the 16 states barcode data matching to the ASCII and the completion type Korean characters in a table, a barcode generator(107) searching and outputting the 16 states barcode data relating to the character requesting the barcode conversion of the information character through the barcode table storage, a printer(104) converting the 16 states barcode data applied from the barcode generator into the 16 states barcode and printing the 16 states barcode, and a controller(108). When the controller receives the request of the barcode conversion from a host computer(112), the controller controls the barcode generator to print the information characters requesting the barcode conversion as the 16 states barcode through the printer.
