PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a method for driving the same are provided to selectively vary the polarity of a voltage supplied to data lines whenever the respective gate lines are driven, thereby effectively preventing the deterioration of the liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display includes an LCD panel including a plurality of gate lines having gate lines pairs(G1-G8) formed of first and second gate lines for transmitting first and second gate signals, a plurality of data lines(D1-D3) intersecting the gate lines, a plurality of first switching elements positioned at the left side of a first data line among the data lines and connected to the first data line and the first gate lines, and a plurality of second switching elements positioned at the right side of the first data line and connected to the first data line and the second gate lines, a scan driving part for supplying the first and second gate signals to the first and second gate lines respectively during a horizontal line time of a cycle, and a data driving part for supplying a gray voltage corresponding to an applied data signal to the data lines, and selectively varying the polarity of the gray voltage during the first and second gate lines are driven, thereby supplying the polarity-varied gray voltage to the data lines.
