PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high contrast silver halide photographic sensitive material having low fog, high sensitivity and less fog increase in long-term storage and causing a small sensitivity change in exposure with time. SOLUTION: The silver halide photographic sensitive material contains at least one compound of the formula L<1> -Au(I)-(L<2> )m }Xn (wherein: L<1> and L<2> are each halogen or a compound containing a seleno-ether group or a telluro- ether group and combined by coordinate-bonding to the monovalent gold atom Au(I) through the selenium atom of the seleno-ether group or the tellurium atom of the telluro-ether group, L<1> and L<2> may be the same or different and may be linked together; X is a counter salt required to make the electric charge of the compound neutral; (m) is 0 or 1; and (n) is 0-1 and may be a decimal fraction) in at least one of silver halide emulsion layers.
