PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and its display method which solve problem points of the conventional display device while making the best use of features of a photodetection type display device which is friendly to the eye like printed matter and eliminates the fatigue of the eye due to external light. SOLUTION: The display device is constituted by arranging a couple of electrode plates at least one of which is transparent across a partition wall so that their electrode plates face each other, forming a closed space by the electrode plates and partition wall, and storing >=1 display element which is rotatable independently of a transparent liquid-phase dispersant in the closed space. Here, (1) the display element is nearly spherical or columnar and (2) the display element has sectioned areas of different colors for display; and (3) the display element is polarized into at least two poles differing in electrostatic charging state and (4) Relation of L>=1.2d for the display element diameter (d) and the distance L between a couple of electrodes is established.
