PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adhesive composition that has excellent adhesion properties, can be used for tack paper, adhesive tapes, etc., and has such redispersibility in water that used paper therewith can be easily defiberized in water for repulping for the purpose of resource conservation or other similar purposes. SOLUTION: This adhesive composition comprises a water-soluble resin (A) obtained by neutralizing a resin having an acid value of >=60 mg KOH/g and a weight average molecular weight of 1,000-50,000, with an alkali metal compound or an aminoalcohol, and a copolymer (B) obtained by copolymerizing (b-1) 40-98.9 wt.% of an alkyl (meth)acrylate having a 4-12C alkyl group, (b-2) 1-20 wt.% of a polymerizable unsaturated carboxylic acid, and (b-3) 0.1-40 wt.% of another copolymerizable monomer [wherein (b-1)+(b-2)+(b-3)=100%; and the weight ratio of water-soluble resin (A) to copolymer (B) or (A)/(B), is 5/95-40/60]. The adhesive composition can be used for an adhesive layer for adhesive tapes or labels.
