1340055 Vinyl chloride polymer compositions OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 15 Dec 1970 [15 Dec 1969] 59496/70 Headings C3P and C3G A composition, especially suitable for blow moulding comprises (i) a vinyl chloride polymer consisting of at least 90% by weight of vinyl chloride, (ii) a stabilizer comprising an organotin derivative of a mercapto compound, (iii) an impact modifier comprising a methyl methacrylate/butadiene-styrene polymer having 80 to 25 parts by weight of methyl methacrylate and 15 to 75 parts by weight of a copolymer of 90 to 50% by weight of butadiene and 10 to 50% by weight of styrene, (iv) a methyl methacrylate polymer as a processing aid and (v) a lubricant, e.g. one comprising glycol esters of montan wax acid which esters may be partially saponified with a basic calcium compound. The vinyl chloride polymer (i) may be a homopolymer or a copolymer with a minor proportion by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated compound, e.g. with vinyl acetate, vinyl stearate, vinylidene chloride, lauryl vinyl ether, propylene, ethylene or butadiene. The methyl methacrylate polymer in the impact modifier (iii) may be a homopolymer or a copolymer of methyl methacrylate with a comonomer having a single vinylidene group. The methyl methacrylate polymer used as processing aid may be a homopolymer or a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and an unsaturated comonomer, e.g. ethyl acrylate or another alkyl methacrylate. A tinting agent may also be present. |
