PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a granular material classifying apparatus which can make the size of the apparatus compact. SOLUTION: This granular material classifying apparatus is provided with a flow- down guide body R, which is arranged in an inclined posture for flowing down a group of granular materials in a state where they form one layer and are arranged in plural rows, an optical inspection means G, which treats a group of granular materials dropped and discharged from the flow-down guide body R as objects to be detected and detects defective granular materials in the above group of granular materials and foreign particles mixed into the group as defective materials, and a separation means F, which separates the defective materials and normal granular materials into different routes based on the detection result of the optical inspection means G. The optical inspection means G is provided with close contact linear image sensors 4A, 4B having a detection region covering the overall width of the group of granular materials, dropped and discharged from the flow-down guide body, in the arrangement direction, in a state that each sensor is arranged closely to a predetermined dropping route to which the group of granular materials dropped and discharged from the flow-down guide body R are dropped and discharged.
