PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a filter which decreases manufacturing process steps and in which the outer peripheral part of the filter comes into surface-to-surface contact with a pipe. SOLUTION: A plate material 3 constituting a filter body 2 is provided with a recessed part 2a of a diameter (sectional area) d1 greater than at least the diameter (sectional area) d3 of mesh 1 and a hole 2b of a diameter (sectional area) d2 smaller than the diameter (sectional area) d1 of the recessed part 2a is molded nearly at the center of a base surface 2j of this recessed part 2a. The mesh 1 is thereafter arranged at the base surface 2j of the recessed part 2a, following which the plate material 3 at the peripheral edge of the recessed part 2a is deformed as caulking 2c of the outer peripheral part 1a of the mesh 1 by press means 5 which is disposed on the axis of the recessed part 2a and has the diameter (sectional area) d4 greater than the diameter (sectional area) d1 of the recessed part 2a, by which the mesh 1 is fixed between the caulking 2c and the recessed part 2a. The filter body 2 is thereafter blanked from the plate material 3 by blanking means having the diameter (sectional area) greater than the diameter (sectional area) d3 of the mesh 1, by which the filter body 2 is detached from the plate material 3.
