PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for reusing a fibrous waste material such as a waster paper, a wood waste and a bamboo waste as a cultivation bed for mushrooms. SOLUTION: This carbonaceous cultivation bed for the mushrooms is obtained by molding a paper clay, or a clay-like material obtained by kneading the paper clay with fibrous plant fragments such as wood waste, bamboo waste and chaff, and carbonizing the molded product. The porosity and the average diameter of macropores of the carbonized molded product are regulated so as to be 50-90% and >=0.05 mm respectively. The method for producing the cultivation bed for the mushrooms is characterized in that water, or the water and a thickener are added to the shredded waste paper or a mixture thereof with the fibrous plant fragment such as the wood waste, the bamboo waste and the chaff, the resultant mixture is kneaded to provide the paper clay-shape, the paper clay-shaped mixture is subjected to a cold-molding or hot-molding, and the resultant molded product is heated to >=400 deg.C in an non-oxidizing atmosphere to carbonize the molded product.
