PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for accurately cutting trimming chip, preventing the malfunction of cutting the trimming chip of metal plates if the thicknesses or types of the metal plates are changed. SOLUTION: The method for cutting the trimming chip produced in trimming the metal plates at their side ends using a side trimmer comprises controlling a clearance G (mm) and an overlap L (mm) between the upper and lower cutters of a chopper for cutting the trimming chip depending on the thickness t (mm) of the metal plates measured at the entry side of the side trimmer.
