PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spinning reel improved in operability of a fishline by decreasing a distance between a fishing rod and the reel, and further improved in winding performance of the fishline by preventing the fishline from twining. SOLUTION: This spinning reel has a body 1b of which the inside is equipped with a rotating mechanism 20 for making a spool shaft 24 freely rotate, a drive speed-increasing mechanism 40 for transmitting drive force from the rotating mechanism 20, a drag mechanism 60 for controlling rotation of the spool shaft 24, and an oscillating mechanism 50 for longitudinally reciprocating a spool 3, wherein the spool shaft 24 is formed to have an oval-shaped part.
