The component (18) for sealing an aperture, such as grooves or seams (1) in or between tunnel segment plate parts (2), has its front end inserted into the aperture (4) so that its side walls (22) locate against those (6) of the aperture. At least one cavity (40) is provided in the sealing component between the side wall parts. In the cavity devices are provided for moving the side wall parts apart, so that they press against the side walls of the aperture. This produces a partial deformation of the side wall parts of the sealing component. The side walls of the aperture at least partly slope in relation to each other, so that near an input side close to the atmosphere the wall is smaller than that on the opposite side. The sealing component in at least the positioned state with side wall parts bent away from each other has at least partly a width greater than the smallest distance between the aperture side walls.
