Purification of He containing as non-radioactive impurities, at least H2O, CO2, N2, and as radioactive impurities, Kr and Xe is effected by a series of adsorption steps in the course of which first the non-radioactive impurities H2O and CO2 are removed, and then, of the residual impurities, Kr and Xe are removed; and finally N2 is removed. Used e.g. for purifying the coolant He used for nuclear reactors where N2 results from the dissociation of lubricant NH3. In the process, no radiation penetrates to the N2 adsorber.
|
