HYDROGENATION CATALYST BED AND METHOD OF HYDROGENATING HEAVY HYDROCARBON OIL USING CATALYST BED.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogenation catalyst bed capable of the increase treatment of crude oil by prolonging the operation period of the catalyst or the decrease of the frequency of catalyst exchange even in the case of heavy oil such as normal pressure residual oil or reduced pressure residual oil containing large quantity of metallic portion in the crude oil, and a method of hydrogenating heavy hydrocarbon oil using the catalyst bed. SOLUTION: In the hydrogenation catalyst bed, the upstream side is composed of a catalyst supporting group 6 metal and group 8-10 metal in periodic table and 0.5-3.0 mass% phosphorus expressed in terms of oxide based on the catalyst and having 140-180 Å average fine pore diameter (PD) and the down stream side is composed of a catalyst supporting group 6 metal and group 8-10 metal in periodic table and 3.0-8.0 mass% phosphorus and having <140 Å average fine pore diameter (PD). The packing ratio of the catalyst in the upstream side is 5-95 vol.% and the packing ratio of the catalyst in the downstream side is 5-95 vol.%. The method hydrogenating the heavy hydrocarbon oil uses the catalyst bed.
