FRICTION/AGITATION JOINING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction/agitation joining method by which the generation of a root residual part is controlled. SOLUTION: Two plate-shaped aluminum joining members 1 and 2 are butted in such a manner that a step is formed in the upper surface side in the thickness direction. A rotating joining head 14 of a joining tool 11 is embedded in the butting part 5 of both joining members 1 and 2 from the upper surface side. On the other hand, a backing roller 17 incorporating an electric heater is arranged to face the joining head 14 in the rear surface side of both the joining members 1 and 2. The outer peripheral surface of the backing roller 17 is heated by the electric heater, and the rear surface is heated by making the rear surface of the butting part 5 of both joining members 1 and 2 on the heated outer peripheral surface of the backing roller 17 abut each other. The butting part 5 of both joining members 1 and 2 is joined by moving both joining members 1 and 2 so that the butting part 5 successively passes through the joining head 14 while heating the rear surface in such a manner.
