METHOD FOR JUDGING GROWTH OF LIVESTOCK AND APPARATUS FOR MEASURING CHINE HEIGHT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for judging growth using a site which can readily be measured and an apparatus capable of measuring the site. SOLUTION: This method for judging the growth of livestock comprises measuring the height of the chine ranging from the shoulder part 2 to the buttock part 5 of cattle 1 which is the livestock, calculating the average value of the measured data and judging the growth state using the resultant average value as an index. In order to measure the height of the chine, the apparatus 12 for measuring the chine height is composed of a livestock passage 13 for enabling the cattle 1 to walk and pass therethrough in one direction, a photoelectric sensor (a photoelectric sensor luminous part 18/photoelectric sensor receiving part 18a) for detecting the presence or absence of the cattle 1, an ultrasonic range finder 19 for measuring at least the height of the chine of the cattle 1 and a sequencer 20 for recording the measured data.
