CABLE TELEVISION METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR REMOTE IDENTIFICATION OF A SET TOP BOX

The head end of a cable TV network remotely identifies a subscriber set box (STB) type by using a trigger signal inserted in the video signal vertical blanking interval (VBI) which upon reception in the STB, triggers a return signal (via e.g. internet) identifying the STB type and then transmits enhanced television services in a format compatable with the STB configuration.
