The invention concerns a computer installation comprising a set of disc cartridges adapted to receive each a single recording medium, characterised in that each disc cartridge is adapted to be placed in a so-called open state, capable of being located by an operator and wherein said disc cartridge can receive a recording medium, said installation comprising control means for reproduction means, which exclusively can control the opening of each disc cartridge and adapted to monitor said disc cartridges such that each time not more than one disc cartridge is in open state. The installation is designed to reproduce in parallel and store in at least one mass storage part at least of data borne by the recording medium/media present in the disc cartridge, so as to constitute a database. The invention also concerns a method for recording said data.
